The Fasco D258A is a 1/5 horsepower, 1550 RPM, 230 volt two-speed double shaft motor for evaporative cooler and similar dual-drive applications.

Two-speed operation is a defining feature of evaporative cooler motors. The high speed provides maximum airflow during the hottest part of the day, while the low speed reduces airflow, noise, and water consumption for milder conditions and night operation. The switch is typically a manual selector at the cooler control rather than an automatic control.

The 1550 RPM speed class reflects the belt-driven blower arrangement common in evaporative coolers, where the motor drives a squirrel cage blower through a pulley ratio that reduces blower speed well below motor speed.
