The DiversiTech RC-1 Insta-Charge is a compact charging scale for refrigerant weighing.

Compact charging aids occupy a useful position between full electronic scales and no measurement at all. They are carried more readily, deployed more quickly, and used more often, which in practice means more charges are weighed rather than estimated.

That distinction matters because the alternative to weighing is usually charging to a target pressure or to a superheat figure, and both are subject to error when conditions are unrepresentative. In mild weather, on a system with restricted airflow, or on equipment whose condition is uncertain, the measurements that guide charging are themselves unreliable.

Adding a known quantity and observing the result is more informative than adding until a reading looks correct.

The practical guidance is to establish the correct charge from the nameplate wherever possible, weigh it in, and use pressure and temperature measurements to verify rather than to determine.

Where the correct charge quantity is genuinely unknown, measurement based charging remains necessary, but it should be recognised as the less certain method.
