CPS Electronic Charging CC220

The CPS CC220 is an electronic refrigerant charging scale for weighing refrigerant into and out of systems.

Charging by weight is the most accurate method available, and on many systems it is the only correct method.

The equipment nameplate states the factory charge for a packaged system, and for a split system it states a base charge plus an allowance per unit length of line set beyond a stated distance. Calculating the total and weighing it in produces a charge that is correct by construction rather than inferred from pressures and temperatures.

This matters most where measurement based charging is unreliable: systems with a receiver, where subcooling does not indicate charge; systems operating in mild ambient conditions where readings are unrepresentative; and blended refrigerants, where any significant loss requires a full recovery and recharge rather than topping up.

A scale is equally essential for recovery, since recovery cylinders must not be filled beyond their safe capacity, and judging cylinder contents by weight is the only reliable method.

Scales should be checked periodically against a known weight, since a scale reading inaccurately produces charges that are confidently wrong.
