BASO Tubing Aluminum 1 Y99AR-1H

The BASO Y99AR-1H is a length of aluminium tubing supplied for pilot gas line and control connections on gas fired appliances.

Aluminium tubing is used for pilot gas supply because it is easily formed by hand, holds its shape once bent, resists corrosion, and is inexpensive. A pilot line carries a very small gas flow at low pressure over a short distance, so the mechanical demands are modest and the ability to route the tube neatly around burner assemblies matters more than strength.

The connections are typically compression or flare fittings, and the quality of the joint depends on the tube end being cut square and deburred, and on the tube being straight and round where the fitting seats.

Kinking is the main hazard when forming aluminium tubing by hand. A kink restricts the already small pilot flow, and a pilot starved of gas produces a weak flame that fails to hold the thermocouple or flame sensor at temperature. The appliance then shuts down on a safety lockout, and the fault is easily attributed to the thermocouple.

Using a bending spring or a small tube bender for tight radii avoids this.

Any work on gas piping must be leak tested afterward with a soap solution or an approved detector, never with a flame.
