The Yellow Jacket 60390 is a tube bender covering 1/4 to 3/8 inch tubing sizes.

Bending tubing rather than fitting an elbow has real advantages. Every fitting is a joint, every joint is a potential leak, and every joint adds pressure drop. A smooth bend has none of those.

The requirement is that the bend must be formed without deforming the tube. Copper bent without support flattens on the outside of the curve and wrinkles on the inside, and both reduce the bore. A kink stops flow almost entirely.

A tube bender supports the tube wall through the bend, keeping the section round. The forming die matches the tube diameter, so a bender covers specific sizes rather than a range.

Minimum bend radius is a property of the tube, not the tool. Every tube has a radius below which it will deform regardless of support, determined by its diameter, wall thickness, and temper. Benders are built to a radius at or above that limit for the sizes they handle.

Tube temper matters. Soft annealed copper bends readily. Hard drawn copper will crack unless annealed first.

Confirm the bender covers the tube sizes and materials required, position the bend accurately before forming since correcting it means rebending and work hardening the tube, and inspect the finished bend for flattening or wrinkling.
