Yellow Jacket Refrigeration Recovery Test Gauge Red

The Yellow Jacket 40331 is a red refrigeration recovery test gauge for high side connections.

Recovery specific gauges support a procedure with its own requirements. Refrigerant must be recovered rather than vented before a system is opened, and recovery is complete only when the system has been drawn down to the level regulation specifies for the equipment type and refrigerant.

Reading that endpoint requires a gauge that resolves usefully near and below atmospheric pressure, since the required level is a vacuum rather than simply zero.

Recovery is faster from both sides simultaneously than from one, and faster in liquid phase than vapour, which is why recovery procedures generally begin with liquid recovery and finish with vapour.

The recovery cylinder must be rated for the refrigerant, must not be overfilled, and must not contain a different refrigerant. Mixed refrigerants cannot be reclaimed and become a disposal cost rather than a recoverable asset.

Weighing the cylinder is the only reliable means of avoiding overfill.
