Yellow Jacket Refrigeration Recovery Test Gauge Blue

The Yellow Jacket 40332 is a blue refrigeration recovery test gauge for low side connections.

The low side gauge during recovery reads the pressure that determines when the procedure is complete, since recovery draws the system progressively down toward and below atmospheric pressure.

A point worth emphasising is that pressure reaching zero does not mean recovery is complete. Refrigerant remains dissolved in the system oil and adsorbed on internal surfaces, and it continues to come out of solution as the pressure falls. A system pumped to zero and then isolated will show pressure rising again as this occurs.

For that reason recovery procedures specify drawing to a vacuum and confirming that the pressure holds, rather than simply reaching zero. Recovery machines with automatic operation manage this, but the principle applies regardless.

Recovering thoroughly matters both for regulatory compliance and because refrigerant left in the system will be released when it is opened.

The gauge should read zero at atmospheric pressure before use, and its vacuum scale, while coarse, is adequate for confirming the endpoint.
