The Uniweld KC100PT is a welding and brazing torch kit supplied with cylinders.

Lighting and shutting down a torch follows a sequence, and doing it in the wrong order causes problems ranging from a poor flame to a genuine hazard.

The standard sequence for lighting is to check that both regulator adjusting screws are backed off, open the cylinder valves slowly, set the working pressures for the tip in use, crack the fuel valve at the torch, light with a striker, then adjust and introduce oxygen to set the flame.

Opening the oxygen cylinder valve slowly matters, since rapid opening produces a pressure surge and heat of compression in the regulator.

A striker must be used to light the torch. A lighter or match places the hand at the tip while gas is flowing, and lighters have exploded when exposed to the flame.

Shutting down reverses the process. The torch valves are closed, fuel generally first, the cylinder valves are closed, the pressure is bled from the hoses by opening the torch valves briefly, and the regulator adjusting screws are backed off.

Bleeding the hoses matters because gas left in them under pressure is a hazard and stresses the equipment.

Confirm the kit's components match the cylinders and gases, secure cylinders upright, fit flashback protection, and leak test before lighting.
