NDL Black Nipple 1/2" X 60" BPF113BS-D60

The NDL BPF113BS-D60 is a 1/2 inch by 60 inch black iron pipe nipple with threaded ends for gas piping and threaded assemblies.

Threading and assembling black iron pipe well comes down to a few practices.

Threads must be cut cleanly with sharp dies and adequate cutting oil. A thread cut with dull dies is torn rather than formed, and a torn thread does not seal reliably regardless of how much sealant is applied. Cutting oil also flushes the chips clear, and chips left in the thread prevent proper engagement.

Reaming after cutting removes the internal burr. A burr left in place restricts flow and can break loose into the system.

Engagement length matters. Tapered threads seal by wedging, and the correct number of turns produces the interference that seals. Too few and the joint is loose; too many risks splitting the fitting, particularly on cast fittings.

Sealant approved for fuel gas is applied to the male thread only, starting a thread or two back from the end so it is not pushed into the bore.

Pipe should be assembled so it can be supported without being pulled into alignment, since a joint under bending stress is more likely to leak over time.

Confirm pipe size, length, and thread specification against the installation. Pressure test and leak test the completed system, and use only sealants approved for gas service.
