NDL Black Nipple 1/2" X 24" BPF113BS-D24

The NDL BPF113BS-D24 is a 1/2 inch by 24 inch black iron pipe nipple, threaded at both ends for use in gas piping and general threaded pipe systems.

Black iron pipe is the traditional material for fuel gas distribution in North American buildings. It is strong, rigid, resistant to mechanical damage, and joined with tapered threaded fittings, and it remains widely specified for gas service.

The name refers to the dark mill scale finish on the pipe rather than to any coating. Black iron is not galvanised and is intended for gas and for closed hydronic systems rather than for potable water, where corrosion would contaminate the supply.

Threaded joints seal on the taper of the thread, assisted by a sealant. Only sealants approved for fuel gas should be used, and the sealant must be applied to the male thread, kept clear of the first thread so it does not enter the pipe, and applied in the correct quantity. Too little permits a leak path; too much can enter the system and foul controls and orifices.

Nipples are supplied in standard lengths, and using the correct length avoids the alternative of assembling several fittings to make up a dimension, which introduces additional joints and additional leak paths.

Confirm pipe size, length, thread specification, and suitability for the intended service. Pressure test and leak test the completed installation.
