Mueller 2 PVC DWV LS 90 Elbow 6061

The Mueller 6061 is a two inch PVC DWV long sweep ninety degree elbow for drainage, waste, vent, and condensate piping.

The long sweep designation describes a bend with a larger radius than a standard elbow, and in drainage it serves a specific purpose.

A short radius elbow turns flow abruptly. In a drainage line this slows the flow at the bend, encourages solids and debris to settle, and creates a point where blockages form. It also makes the line more difficult to clear mechanically, since a drain cleaning cable or brush negotiates a gentle bend readily and can jam at a tight one.

A long sweep maintains flow velocity through the turn and allows clearing equipment to pass. Drainage codes frequently require long sweep fittings in particular positions for exactly these reasons, most commonly where a vertical stack turns to horizontal.

On condensate drainage the flow rates are low and solids are not the issue, but the same characteristics help. Growth and debris accumulate less readily at a gentle bend, and the line can be cleared more easily.

Long sweep fittings occupy more space than standard elbows, which occasionally constrains their use in tight locations.

Confirm the fitting size, configuration, and material standard against the application. Maintain continuous fall through the fitting, support the run adequately, and follow the cement manufacturer's procedure.
