Mars Sequencer Replacement W-R 24A34-2 M33842

The Mars M33842 is an electric heat sequencer, replacing the White-Rodgers 24A34-2.

Multiple sequencers are commonly used together in electric heating equipment, each controlling one stage, with their delays arranged so that stages come on progressively.

This creates a diagnostic situation worth recognising: an electric furnace producing some heat but not enough is frequently a failed sequencer on one stage rather than a fault affecting the whole appliance. Measuring current draw on each element circuit identifies which stages are actually energising.

Sequencers are also implicated in a specific failure pattern. A sequencer with welded contacts leaves its element energised continuously, regardless of the thermostat. Because the blower is also controlled through the sequencing arrangement, this may leave an element heating with the blower off once the call ends, which the limit will then interrupt repeatedly.

An electric furnace whose limit is cycling, or which produces heat when no call is present, warrants checking the sequencers for welded contacts.

Replacement sequencers must match the original in delay characteristics, contact configuration, and current rating.
