The Mainstream Engineering QT2912 is a three pack compressor terminal repair kit supplying replacement terminal connectors for hermetic compressor service.

Supplied in a three pack, this kit covers the three motor terminals of a single phase or three phase compressor, or provides stock for multiple service calls.

Rebuilding a compressor terminal connection correctly requires attention to three things. The first is the condition of the terminal pin itself. A pin that is pitted, discoloured, or has lost material has already been running hot, and rebuilding the connection onto a degraded pin will not last. Severe pin damage means the compressor requires replacement rather than repair.

The second is crimp quality. The connector must be crimped with the correct tool for its size, producing a mechanically sound joint with full contact area. A crimp made with pliers has a fraction of the contact area of a properly made one, and it will develop the same resistance and heat that caused the original failure.

The third is insulation. The terminal boot and any insulating sleeve must be reinstated fully, since they provide both electrical isolation and a barrier against moisture.

Establish why the terminal overheated before rebuilding it. A failing contactor, an overloaded compressor, or low supply voltage will destroy the repair as surely as it destroyed the original.

Disconnect and lock out power before any work on compressor terminals.
