Product Highlights
Description
The Lau 38259001 is a ball bearing type replacement bearing for fan and blower motor assemblies, supplied as a service component for motor and blower repair.
Ball bearings differ from sleeve bearings in how they carry load and in how they fail. A ball bearing supports the shaft on rolling elements rather than an oil film, which allows it to carry higher loads, tolerate belt tension, and operate in mounting positions where a sleeve bearing would lose its lubricant film. Belt driven blowers, larger direct drive fans, and motors mounted vertically commonly use ball bearings for these reasons.
The failure pattern is also distinct. A sleeve bearing wears gradually and grows quieter in the sense that its noise builds slowly. A ball bearing typically announces itself with a growl or rumble that becomes progressively rougher, and once the raceways or elements have spalled, remaining life is short.
Rotating the shaft by hand with the belt removed reveals a failing bearing readily. A sound bearing turns smoothly with no detectable roughness. Any grinding, catching, or radial play indicates replacement is due.
Belt tension is the most common cause of premature bearing failure in belt driven assemblies. Overtensioning applies continuous side load well beyond design.
Confirm bore, outside diameter, width, and bearing type against the assembly before ordering, and inspect the shaft and housing for wear at the same time.
