The Kotap ADPTRA1020 is an Alliance Economy Utility Tarp measuring 10' x 20', supplied in blue. It is a poly tarpaulin in the homeowner's utility class, built for temporary covering and general protection work.

The tarp uses an 8x8 weave at a 4.5 mil gauge. Those two numbers describe what the tarp is: the weave count is the number of threads per square inch in each direction, and the mil gauge is the total thickness including the coating. An 8x8 / 4.5 mil construction is the economy specification — light, easy to handle and fold, and priced to be treated as semi-disposable rather than a long-service cover.

Polyethylene tarpaulin is waterproof by construction rather than by treatment, and it does not absorb water, rot, or mildew the way a canvas tarp will if it is put away damp.
