The Kalas KALPD13310050 is a heavy duty extension cord, 50 ft, 50 amp, 250 V, 8/3 STW jacket, black.

This is the long version of the 25 ft cord in this range, and the length difference is not neutral — it is the reason to think before ordering.

Voltage drop increases with cable length. Wire has resistance, resistance under load drops voltage, and the equipment at the far end gets less than it was designed for. At 50 amps that effect is substantial, and doubling the length doubles it. A welder on a long cord may strike poorly and run erratically, and the fault gets blamed on the machine.

The correct practice is the shortest cord that reaches. The 50 ft exists because sometimes 25 will not, not because longer is better.

The 8/3 specification is three conductors of 8 AWG — heavy wire, and heavy is what 50 amps requires. An undersized cord at this current heats, which is a fire cause, while starving the equipment at the same time.

STW is the jacket rating: service cord, thermoplastic, weather and water resistant — outdoor rated.
