The IPEX IPX414186BC is a Canplas 6 inch SDR 35 PVC sewer and drain elbow, 45 degrees, a 1/8 bend.

The "1/8 bend" terminology is the plumbing trade's name for a 45 degree fitting, and it is worth explaining because it confuses everyone who has not met it. Drainage fittings are named as fractions of a full circle: a 1/8 bend is one eighth of 360 degrees, which is 45 degrees. A 1/4 bend is 90. A 1/16 bend is 22.5. The fraction, not the degrees, is what a plumber will ask for.

SDR 35 is the pipe classification and it is the specification that matters most. SDR is Standard Dimension Ratio — the ratio of outside diameter to wall thickness — and SDR 35 is the sewer and drain grade, intended for gravity drainage buried in the ground. It is not pressure pipe, and it is not the same as Schedule 40 DWV. These are different products with different dimensions, and they are not interchangeable.

The 45 degree bend is the workhorse of drainage design for a reason worth knowing: a 45 degree turn keeps flow moving where a 90 slows it and encourages solids to settle. Good drainage practice uses 45s wherever the geometry allows.

Applications include buried sewer and storm drain lines, site drainage, and municipal work.

Verify the pipe classification on site before ordering — SDR 35 and Schedule 40 do not mate.
