Product Highlights
Description
The ESP EZS-495-11 is a universal air pressure switch for gas fired heating equipment, used as a replacement for a range of original equipment switches.
An air pressure switch proves that the induced draft blower is actually moving air before the ignition sequence is permitted to proceed. It senses the small negative pressure the blower creates and closes its contacts when that pressure is present. If the blower fails, the vent is blocked, the condensate trap is full, or the heat exchanger is obstructed, the pressure does not develop, the switch stays open, and the furnace locks out rather than firing into a vent that cannot carry the products of combustion.
That makes it a safety device rather than an operational control, and it is the reason a pressure switch must never be jumpered to get equipment running. A jumpered switch defeats the only proof that venting is occurring.
A universal replacement covers a range of setpoints and connection configurations, which is useful when the original part is unavailable or the equipment is old enough that support has ended. The setpoint, connection type, and switch action must match the original.
Most pressure switch faults are not the switch. Blocked vents, cracked or disconnected hoses, full condensate traps, and failing blower motors account for the majority. Diagnose before replacing.
