ESP Expanding Hose 50FT BX50

The ESP BX50 is a 50 foot expanding hose, a lightweight hose that extends under water pressure and contracts when the supply is shut off.

Expanding hoses solve a storage and handling problem rather than a performance one. A conventional 50 foot hose is heavy, bulky, and takes up significant space in a service vehicle, and dragging it around a property is a chore. An expanding hose contracts to a fraction of its extended length and weighs considerably less, which makes it far more practical to carry on a vehicle where space is contested.

The trade offs are worth understanding. Expanding hoses are less durable than reinforced rubber hose and are vulnerable to abrasion, to being dragged over sharp edges, and to punctures. They are also sensitive to being left pressurised, and leaving one under pressure in the sun shortens its life considerably.

Shutting off the supply at the tap and releasing the pressure after use, then allowing the hose to contract and drain before storing it, extends service life substantially.

For HVAC service work the principal use is condenser coil cleaning, where the flow and pressure available from a domestic tap is adequate and the portability is genuinely valuable.

Confirm thread compatibility with the taps and fittings in use, avoid dragging the hose over abrasive surfaces, and store it drained and depressurised.
