The DiversiTech 6211CX is a terminal multi plier, a combination tool for cutting, stripping, and crimping electrical terminals.

Combination electrical tools consolidate several operations into one tool, which suits a trade where the electrical work is a part of the job rather than the whole of it and where carrying capacity is limited.

The crimping function is the one that matters most to reliability. A crimped connection carries current through the mechanical contact between the terminal barrel and the conductor strands, and the quality of that contact determines the resistance of the joint.

A properly made crimp compresses the barrel so that the strands are cold welded together and to the terminal, producing a gas tight joint with very low resistance. A crimp made with pliers, or with a tool of the wrong size for the terminal, deforms the barrel without achieving that compression. The joint holds mechanically and conducts adequately at first, then develops resistance as oxidation works into the gaps.

Resistance produces heat, heat accelerates oxidation, and the connection fails. Burned terminals on contactors, capacitors, and compressor connections frequently begin this way.

Using the correct die for the terminal size, indicated by the colour coding on insulated terminals, is what makes the difference.

Confirm the tool covers the terminal sizes used, and test each crimp with a firm pull.
