DiversiTech Self-Regulating Heat CBL/6.56FT/120V

The DiversiTech HC-02 is a self-regulating heat cable assembly measuring 6.56 feet and operating on 120 volts, supplied ready to install for freeze protection on condensate drain lines, small-diameter piping, and other components exposed to low ambient temperatures.

Self-regulating construction is the defining feature. The conductive polymer core between the bus wires increases resistance as its temperature rises and decreases resistance as it cools, so each section of the cable independently adjusts its heat output to local conditions. Sections buried in insulation or in contact with a cold pipe draw more power, while sections in warmer air draw less. This behaviour prevents the overheating and burnout that can occur with constant-wattage cable, and it allows the cable to be safely overlapped at fittings and valves without creating hot spots.

Primary applications include protecting condensate drains on rooftop units, mini-split line sets, and air handlers in unconditioned space; preventing ice blockage in short runs of water or drain piping; and maintaining flow in exposed lines through parking garages, attics, and mechanical penthouses. Freeze protection matters because a blocked condensate line backs water into the drain pan and can trigger a float switch shutdown or cause overflow damage to ceilings and equipment below.

The 120V supply voltage suits standard building receptacles and dedicated circuits common in light commercial and residential mechanical rooms. Install per manufacturer instructions and applicable electrical code, secure with approved tape rather than metal fasteners that could pierce the jacket, and cover with insulation where specified to maximize efficiency.
