DiversiTech Scraper Fibre Cleaning B 542-76220

The DiversiTech 542-76220 is a fibre cleaning brush scraper used for preparing and cleaning surfaces during service work.

Surface preparation determines the outcome of most joining and sealing operations, and it is consistently the step given least time.

For soldered and brazed joints the requirement is bright, clean, dry metal on both mating surfaces, prepared immediately before assembly. Oxide, oil, and dirt all prevent the filler metal wetting the surface.

For sealants and adhesives the requirement is similar. A duct sealant applied over dust, oil, or loose material bonds to that material rather than to the duct, and it releases when the loose layer does.

For gasketed joints the sealing faces must be clean and free of residue from the previous gasket. Old gasket material left in place prevents the new gasket seating evenly.

Fibre brushes are useful where a wire brush would be too aggressive or would leave metal particles behind, and where the surface must be cleaned without being scored.

The general principle is to clean immediately before the operation rather than in advance, since freshly cleaned metal begins oxidising straight away and a cleaned surface left exposed collects dust.

Confirm the brush type suits the surface and the application, and avoid using tools between dissimilar metals where transferred particles could cause corrosion.
