The DiversiTech POCF80A is an 80 microfarad, 440 volt oval run capacitor for compressor run duty in larger air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Capacitance values at this level are associated with larger single-phase compressors, typically in five ton residential and light commercial condensing units. As compressor size increases, the run capacitor's contribution to running torque and current becomes correspondingly more significant, and a degraded capacitor on a large single-phase compressor produces high current draw that can trip the unit's overcurrent protection or cause the internal overload to open.

That failure pattern is often misdiagnosed. A compressor that trips its overload intermittently and restarts after cooling is frequently condemned when the actual fault is a run capacitor that has lost a third of its capacitance. Measuring the capacitor takes minutes and should precede any decision about compressor replacement.

Eighty microfarad units are physically larger than mid-range capacitors, so mounting space and strap size should be confirmed.
