DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 80 PRCFD8075A

The DiversiTech PRCFD8075A is a round dual run capacitor rated 80 plus 7.5 microfarad at 440 volts for large compressor and condenser fan motor applications in air conditioning equipment.

The two sections of a dual capacitor fail independently, and which one has gone determines the symptom presented at the call. A failed compressor section leaves a unit where the condenser fan spins normally but the compressor only hums, draws locked rotor current, and trips on internal overload. A failed fan section leaves the compressor running while the fan stands still, which drives head pressure up until the high pressure switch opens or, on equipment without one, until the compressor is damaged.

Because the symptoms are so different, the fan-section failure in particular is often diagnosed as a fan motor fault and the motor replaced unnecessarily. Measuring both sections separately before condemning any motor avoids that error and takes only a few minutes.

Where one section has failed, the whole capacitor is replaced; the sections are not separately serviceable.

The 80 microfarad section serves the compressor and the 7.5 microfarad section serves the condenser fan motor.

Confirm both values, voltage rating, case dimensions, and terminal layout before ordering, and discharge both sections before handling.
