DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 60MFD PRCF60A

The DiversiTech PRCF60A is a 60 microfarad, 440 volt round run capacitor for compressor and motor run applications in HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

A bulged case is the clearest visual sign of a failed run capacitor. Internal gas generation from dielectric breakdown raises pressure inside the sealed can, deforming the top and sometimes the sides. A capacitor showing this deformation has failed and must be replaced, and if the pressure interrupter has operated the capacitor will read open on a meter.

Other visual indicators include a split seam, oily residue on or beneath the case, discoloured or melted terminals, and corrosion at the terminal base. Any of these confirms failure.

What visual inspection cannot do is confirm that a capacitor is good. The gradual capacitance loss that characterises normal run capacitor ageing produces no external change at all, and a capacitor at seventy percent of rated value looks exactly like a new one. Measurement is the only reliable assessment.

Sixty microfarad serves compressor run duty on larger residential and light commercial condensing units.
