The DiversiTech PRCFD6010A is a round dual run capacitor rated 60 plus 10 microfarad at 440 volts for compressor and condenser fan motor service.

Heat pump applications place roughly twice the annual demand on a run capacitor that a cooling-only system does. A straight air conditioner runs only during the cooling season; a heat pump runs the same compressor and outdoor fan motor through the heating season as well, and in many climates the heating hours exceed the cooling hours.

The consequence is that heat pump capacitors reach the end of their rated service life in fewer calendar years than the identical component in a cooling-only unit. Contractors servicing heat pumps should expect a shorter replacement interval and should measure capacitance at both the spring and autumn maintenance visits rather than only at spring startup.

Winter operation adds a second consideration: a heat pump that fails during a cold snap leaves the building on auxiliary electric heat, which is expensive, so preventive capacitor replacement is easier to justify economically than on a cooling-only system.

The 60 microfarad section serves the compressor and the 10 microfarad section the condenser fan motor.
