DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 55 PRCFD5575A

The DiversiTech PRCFD5575A is a round dual run capacitor rated 55 plus 7.5 microfarad at 440 volts for combined compressor and condenser fan motor duty.

A run capacitor does more than allow a single-phase motor to start. Because it remains in circuit throughout operation, it continuously shifts the phase of the current in the auxiliary winding, which improves the motor's power factor and its running torque. The effect is measurable as reduced current draw for the same mechanical output.

That is the practical reason a degraded run capacitor costs money even before it causes a failure. A compressor operating on a capacitor that has drifted well below its rated value draws more current to do the same work, every hour it runs, across the whole season. The energy penalty is real, and it accrues silently because the system continues to cool and no fault is presented.

Measuring capacitance during seasonal maintenance catches this condition while it is still cheap to correct.

The 55 microfarad section serves the compressor through HERM and the 7.5 microfarad section serves the condenser fan motor through FAN.
