DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 55 PRCFD555A

The DiversiTech PRCFD555A is a round dual run capacitor rated 55 plus 5 microfarad at 440 volts for compressor and condenser fan motor applications.

Coastal and high-humidity installations impose a failure mode that has nothing to do with electrical stress. Salt-laden air corrodes the capacitor's terminals and the base of the terminal assembly, and corrosion at a quick-connect joint raises contact resistance. The resulting heat damages the terminal seal, admits moisture, and destroys a capacitor whose element may still be entirely sound.

Signs to look for during service in these environments include white or green deposits at the terminal base, discoloured spade connectors, and female terminals that have lost their grip. Terminals that slide on without resistance should be cut off and replaced with new connectors rather than crimped tighter.

Corrosion of this kind also affects the contactor, the disconnect, and the fan motor leads, so a capacitor failing this way is usually a signal to inspect the whole electrical compartment rather than only the failed part.

The 55 microfarad section serves the compressor and the 5 microfarad section the condenser fan motor.
