DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 50 PRCFD505A

The DiversiTech PRCFD505A is a round dual run capacitor rated 50 plus 5 microfarad at 440 volts for compressor and condenser fan motor duty in air conditioning equipment.

A correctly specified run capacitor is not the same thing as a start assist device, and the two address different problems. The run capacitor is permanently in circuit and supports continuous operation. A hard start kit, typically a start capacitor combined with a potential relay or a solid-state equivalent, is switched in only during the starting interval to boost starting torque, then removed from circuit.

The distinction matters diagnostically. A compressor that struggles to start on a system with correct refrigerant charge, a sound contactor, and a run capacitor measuring within tolerance may benefit from a start assist device. A compressor that struggles to start on a degraded run capacitor needs the run capacitor replaced, and fitting a hard start kit in that situation masks the fault while leaving the compressor running on inadequate capacitance for the rest of the season.
