DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 45MFD PRCF45A

The DiversiTech PRCF45A is a 45 microfarad, 440 volt round run capacitor for compressor run duty in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Capacitance must be matched exactly to the motor's specification. This is worth stating plainly because substitution is a persistent field habit: when the correct value is not on the truck, a nearby value is fitted with the intention of returning later, and the return visit does not happen.

Fitting a capacitor below the specified value reduces starting and running torque and increases main winding current. Fitting one above the specified value increases current in the auxiliary winding, which is wound with finer conductor than the main winding and has correspondingly less thermal capacity. Both conditions produce winding heat, and neither causes an immediate visible fault. The damage accumulates and the failure appears later, by which time the mismatched capacitor is no longer connected to the diagnosis.

Voltage rating may be increased above the original; capacitance may not be changed.

Forty five microfarad serves compressor run duty on larger residential systems. Confirm capacitance, voltage rating, case dimensions, and terminal arrangement before ordering, and discharge the capacitor before handling.
