DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 40MFD POCF40A

The DiversiTech POCF40A is a 40 microfarad, 440 volt oval run capacitor for single-phase motors in HVAC and refrigeration applications.

Failed run capacitors produce a recognisable set of symptoms. A motor that hums but does not start, starts only when the shaft is turned by hand, runs hot, draws current above nameplate, or trips on thermal overload after a period of running is presenting the classic signature of low capacitance. Because these symptoms are also produced by winding faults and mechanical problems, the capacitor should be measured rather than assumed, but it is the first thing to check because it is the most common failure and the least expensive to correct.

Forty microfarad is a typical compressor run value on three to four ton residential condensing units.

Visual inspection catches only the advanced cases: a bulged top, split case, or leaked dielectric confirms failure, but a capacitor that looks entirely normal may still be far below its rated value. A capacitance meter is the only reliable test.

Discharge before handling. Confirm capacitance, voltage rating, terminal configuration, and case dimensions before ordering, and check that the mounting strap in the equipment suits the replacement case size.
