DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 40/5MFD POCFD405A

The DiversiTech POCFD405A is a dual run capacitor rated 40 plus 5 microfarad at 440 volts for combined compressor and condenser fan motor service in air conditioning equipment.

The 5 microfarad fan section is at the lower end of the range used for condenser fan motors, and it corresponds to a smaller fan motor than the 7.5 or 10 microfarad sections found in many dual capacitors. The fan section value must match the fan motor's requirement, which is marked on the fan motor nameplate. Fitting a dual capacitor with a larger fan section because it was the available part drives excess current through the fan motor's auxiliary winding and shortens its life.

The 40 microfarad section serves the compressor.

When a condenser fan motor is replaced, the required capacitance frequently changes, and the dual capacitor must be reviewed against the new motor's nameplate rather than left in place by default. This is a common source of premature failure on units where the fan motor was replaced with a universal substitute.

Discharge both sections before handling. Confirm both capacitance values, the voltage rating, terminal configuration, and case dimensions before ordering, and record the existing wiring before disconnection.
