DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 30MFD POCF30A

The DiversiTech POCF30A is a 30 microfarad, 440 volt oval run capacitor for single-phase HVAC and refrigeration motors.

The distinction between 370 volt and 440 volt run capacitors is a frequent source of confusion in the field. The voltage marking is a maximum continuous rating, not a required supply voltage. A 440 volt capacitor installed where a 370 volt unit was originally fitted operates correctly and generally offers longer service life, because it runs further below its rated stress. Fitting a 370 volt capacitor in place of a 440 volt one, however, subjects the dielectric to voltage beyond its design and results in early failure.

For that reason, many contractors standardise on 440 volt capacitors across their truck stock and carry only the microfarad values they need. Capacitance, unlike voltage, must always match exactly.

Thirty microfarad is a widely used value for compressor run duty on smaller residential systems and for larger indoor blower motors.

Before handling any run capacitor, disconnect power and discharge the capacitor across a suitable resistor. A capacitor removed from a live circuit retains charge, and the stored energy in a 30 microfarad unit is enough to cause injury.
