DiversiTech Run Capacitor 440V 25 PRCFD255A

The DiversiTech PRCFD255A is a dual run capacitor rated 25 plus 5 microfarad at 440 volts, in a round case, serving compressor and condenser fan motor duty in air conditioning equipment.

The 25 microfarad section connects to the HERM terminal and serves the hermetic compressor; the 5 microfarad section connects to FAN and serves the condenser fan motor. C is the common terminal shared by both sections.

This combination is typical of smaller residential condensing units, roughly in the one and a half to two ton range, where both the compressor and the condenser fan motor are modest in size.

When diagnosing, test both sections independently. Measure from HERM to C for the compressor section and from FAN to C for the fan section, with the capacitor isolated and discharged. A capacitor may have one good section and one failed section, and the symptom presented depends entirely on which one has gone: a failed fan section stops the condenser fan and drives head pressure up, while a failed compressor section prevents the compressor from starting.
