The DiversiTech POCF25B is a 25 microfarad, 440 volt oval run capacitor for permanent split capacitor motors in HVAC and refrigeration service.

Run capacitors are manufactured to a stated tolerance, typically plus or minus six percent for HVAC service. That figure is the basis for field testing: a capacitor measuring within tolerance of its marked value is serviceable, while one measuring outside it should be replaced regardless of whether the motor currently runs. A capacitance meter reading is definitive, and it takes less time than the diagnostic work that follows from leaving a marginal capacitor in place.

Twenty five microfarad is a common value for indoor blower motors and mid-size condenser fan motors.

The capacitor is a metallized film construction, in which a thin metal layer deposited on plastic film forms the electrodes. This construction is self-healing: a localised dielectric fault vaporises the surrounding metallization and isolates itself, so the capacitor loses a small amount of capacitance rather than failing short. Repeated healing events are what cause the gradual capacitance drift seen in aged capacitors.

The 440 volt rating may substitute for a 370 volt unit of matching capacitance; the reverse substitution is not acceptable.
