DiversiTech Capacitor 50/7.5 MFD 440/3 TRCFD5075

The DiversiTech TRCFD5075 is a round dual run capacitor rated 50 plus 7.5 microfarad at 440 and 370 volts for compressor and fan motor duty in air conditioning equipment.

Compressors that start slowly draw locked rotor current for longer than they should, and that current stresses the windings, the contactor, and the supply. Before deciding how to address it, the cause needs to be established, because the remedies are different.

Inadequate run capacitance is the first thing to rule out, by measurement. Equalisation problems come next: a fixed-orifice system that has not had time to equalise between cycles presents the compressor with a pressure differential it must start against, which points to short cycling or a control problem rather than an electrical one. Low supply voltage at the unit under load is a third possibility. Only after those are eliminated does a start assist device become the appropriate answer.

Fitting a hard start kit as a first response can make a system run while leaving the actual fault in place.

The 50 microfarad section serves the compressor through HERM and the 7.5 microfarad section serves the condenser fan motor through FAN.
