DiversiTech Capacitor 45/5 MFD 440/370V Round

The DiversiTech TRCFD455 is a round dual run capacitor rated 45 plus 5 microfarad at 440 and 370 volts for compressor and condenser fan motor applications.

Run capacitors listed for HVAC service incorporate a pressure interrupter as a safety feature. If an internal fault generates gas and raises pressure within the sealed case, the top of the can deforms outward, and that movement mechanically breaks the internal connection to the capacitor element. The capacitor goes open circuit rather than continuing to conduct, and the case is prevented from rupturing.

This is why a bulged capacitor almost always measures open on a meter, and why the bulge itself is a definitive indication of failure rather than a cosmetic defect. It also explains why capacitors must be mounted upright where the manufacturer specifies it: the interrupter mechanism depends on the case deforming in the intended direction.

A capacitor showing case deformation should be replaced immediately and should not be reused under any circumstances, even if it happens to still read within tolerance.

The 45 microfarad section serves the compressor and the 5 microfarad section the condenser fan motor.
