DiversiTech Capacitor 45/3 MFD 440/370V TRCFD453

The DiversiTech TRCFD453 is a round dual run capacitor rated 45 plus 3 microfarad at 440 and 370 volts for compressor and condenser fan motor service.

A 3 microfarad fan section is unusual and identifies a small condenser fan motor, generally in the one-twelfth to one-tenth horsepower range. Motors of that size appear on smaller condensing units, refrigeration condensing units, and some ductless outdoor sections.

The low value is worth noting because it is easy to substitute upward by mistake. A 5 microfarad fan section looks identical on the shelf and will run the fan motor, so the error produces no immediate symptom. What it does produce is excess current in the fan motor's auxiliary winding, which is wound with fine conductor and has limited thermal capacity. The motor runs hotter than it should for the remainder of its life and fails earlier than it otherwise would.

Confirm the fan motor nameplate rather than assuming, particularly where the installed capacitor may itself be a previous substitution.

The 45 microfarad section serves the compressor through HERM and the 3 microfarad section serves the fan motor through FAN.

Confirm both values and case dimensions before ordering, and discharge both sections before handling.
