DiversiTech Capacitor 40+10/440/OVL POCFD4010A

The DiversiTech POCFD4010A is a dual run capacitor rated 40 plus 10 microfarad at 440 volts, serving compressor and condenser fan motor duty in a single component.

Where a dual capacitor is unavailable in the required combination, two single capacitors of the corresponding values may be substituted. The compressor value is wired between the compressor start winding and the supply, the fan value between the fan motor and the supply, and both share the common connection that the dual capacitor's C terminal previously provided. This is an accepted repair, provided both capacitors are securely mounted and the voltage rating is equal to or greater than the original.

The substitution is also a useful diagnostic and stocking strategy: a contractor carrying a range of single capacitors can cover many dual capacitor combinations without stocking every dual variant.

What cannot be done is fitting a single capacitor of the summed value, or omitting one section. The two motors require different capacitance and separate connections.

In this unit the 40 microfarad section serves the compressor and the 10 microfarad section serves the condenser fan.

Discharge before handling, confirm both values and the voltage rating against the equipment nameplate, and verify mounting space before ordering.
