Product Highlights
Description
The BASO Y75AS-2H is a flame sensor supplied in a two pack, used in gas fired heating equipment to prove the presence of flame.
Flame sensing on modern furnaces works by flame rectification. The sensor rod sits in the flame, and because the flame contains ionised gas it conducts electricity, but it conducts far better in one direction than the other owing to the difference in area between the sensor rod and the grounded burner. The control board applies alternating voltage and detects the resulting small direct current, typically measured in microamps.
The consequence of this arrangement is that flame sensing depends on a good ground path through the burner assembly. A corroded burner, a loose burner mounting, or a poor ground connection at the furnace will produce weak or absent flame signal even with a perfectly clean sensor and a strong flame.
The other common cause is contamination. A film of oxide on the sensor rod insulates it and reduces the signal, and the standard remedy is to clean the rod with fine abrasive material, not to replace the sensor.
Measuring the flame signal in microamps against the manufacturer's minimum is the diagnostic that distinguishes these causes.
Applications include residential and commercial gas furnaces, boilers, and heating appliances.
