Yellow Jacket Ratchet Wrench 3/16" 60612

The Yellow Jacket 60612 is a 3/16 inch ratchet service wrench for refrigeration valve stem operation.

Operating a service valve correctly involves more than turning it, and the sequence matters on systems where the valve position determines whether the system is isolated.

A back seating service valve has three positions. Fully back seated, where the service port is closed off and the valve passes refrigerant through the system. Mid position, where both the system and the service port are open, which is the position used for gauge readings and charging. And front seated, where the system is isolated and the service port is open to the compressor side, used for pump down and compressor service.

Leaving a valve in the wrong position after service is a recognised cause of callbacks. A valve left front seated isolates the system and it will not operate. A valve left back seated closes the service port, which is correct for normal running but means a gauge connected to it reads nothing.

Confirming valve positions before leaving site, and refitting the stem caps, is part of completing the work.

Stem caps are seals on most designs rather than dust covers.

Confirm the wrench size matches the stems in service, keep the drive square in good condition, and avoid forcing a stiff stem.
