Uniweld Oxy Delivery Gauge G49D

The Uniweld G49D is an oxygen delivery pressure gauge for regulators on oxy fuel equipment.

A two gauge regulator displays two different pressures, and confusing them is a common error among people new to gas equipment.

The contents gauge reads cylinder pressure and indicates how much gas remains. The delivery gauge reads the pressure being supplied to the torch, which is what the operator sets.

The delivery gauge is the one adjusted during use. Setting the working pressure to the value specified for the tip in use is what produces a correct flame, and the tip manufacturer publishes the pressures for each size.

Running at incorrect pressure produces predictable problems. Too low and the flame lacks the velocity to stay at the tip, which causes backfire and, in the worst case, flashback where the flame travels back into the torch. Too high and the flame blows off the tip and cannot be maintained.

Gauge accuracy matters for the same reason, and a damaged or inaccurate gauge should be replaced rather than worked around.

A regulator that creeps, where delivery pressure rises after the torch is closed, has an internal fault and must be taken out of service.

Confirm the gauge is designated for oxygen service, that the range and connection match the regulator, and keep all oxygen equipment scrupulously free of oil and grease.
