The Southwire 553060407 is 18 gauge, 6 conductor thermostat cable supplied on a spool.

Six conductors accommodate a heat pump installation: transformer supply, compressor contactor, reversing valve, auxiliary heat, fan, and common. This is the minimum practical configuration for a heat pump with supplemental heat and a thermostat requiring continuous power.

Heat pump wiring introduces a configuration point that causes recurring confusion. The reversing valve may be energised in cooling or in heating depending on the manufacturer, and the thermostat must be set to match. A thermostat configured for the wrong orientation produces a system that heats on a call for cooling, which is immediately apparent, or one that fails to change over, which is less so.

The convention is generally indicated by the terminal designation on the equipment, and the equipment's wiring diagram states it definitively.
