The Southwire 553055407 is 18 gauge, 5 conductor thermostat cable supplied in a 250 foot package.

Terminating thermostat cable is straightforward but rewards care, since the connections are the most likely point of failure in the control circuit.

Conductors should be stripped only as far as the terminal requires, leaving no bare copper exposed beyond the terminal. Excess bare conductor at a thermostat terminal block is a short waiting to happen when the thermostat is pushed onto its subbase.

Terminal screws should be tightened firmly onto the conductor rather than onto its insulation, and the conductor should be checked by a light pull after tightening.

Where several conductors are landed close together, and particularly where a spare conductor is left unused, the unused conductor should be capped or taped rather than left bare. A loose unterminated conductor touching a live terminal produces faults that are difficult to trace because the contact is intermittent.

At the equipment end, the same principles apply, with the additional consideration that the cable should be secured so that it cannot move against sheet metal edges.
