The Southwire 553035507 is 18 gauge, 3 conductor thermostat cable supplied in a 500 foot package.

Cable installation practice affects reliability more than the cable specification does, and a few points recur.

Thermostat cable should be secured at intervals rather than left hanging, both to prevent it being snagged and to keep it clear of moving parts and hot surfaces in equipment compartments. Cable resting against a flue pipe or a heat exchanger will eventually fail.

Where it passes through framing, protection is required against fasteners driven later. Bored holes centred in the member, or nail plates where the hole is close to the face, address this.

At the equipment, cable should enter through a proper bushing or connector rather than a bare sheet metal edge, which will cut the insulation over time as the cable moves.
