The Southwire 553025507 is 18 gauge, 2 conductor thermostat cable supplied in a 500 foot package.

Two conductor cable serves the simplest control connections: a single switched circuit with no additional functions. Typical uses include a millivolt or line voltage thermostat controlling a single stage heater, a damper actuator, a condensate switch, a sensor connection, or an interlock between two devices.

It is also commonly used to run a supplementary circuit alongside an existing multi-conductor cable, adding a function without replacing the original run.

18 gauge is the heavier of the two common thermostat wire gauges and is preferred where the run is long or where the circuit carries more than a minimal load. The larger conductor reduces voltage drop, which matters where a contactor coil or a solenoid is being energised at the far end.

For very short runs and light signal duty, 20 gauge is adequate and easier to handle.

Cable should be routed away from line voltage conductors where practical, secured at intervals, and protected where it passes through framing.

Applications include residential and light commercial control wiring, damper and sensor connections, and equipment interlocks.
