S-Line SLI557 2" x 27' Ratchet w/Long Wide Handle & Flat Hooks 3 333 lb Wll

The S-Line SLI557 is a 2 inch x 27 ft ratchet strap with a long wide handle and flat hooks, 3,333 lb working load limit, bulk 10 per case.

The 3,333 lb figure is worth reading, because the arithmetic behind it is the whole safety system.

Tie-down assemblies are rated at one third of breaking strength. Three thousand three hundred and thirty-three is exactly a third of ten thousand — so this is a 10,000 lb assembly derated to a working load limit. That factor of three is not padding. It is the margin that absorbs what a truck does to a strap: a hard stop, a pothole, a corner taken at speed. The peak tension during any of those is a multiple of the static weight, and the strap has to survive it every time, for years.

The long wide handle is a real feature. A ratchet's handle is a lever, and a longer one applies proper tension with less effort — which matters because under-tensioned straps are the actual failure. A strap that goes slack lets the load shift, the load then loads the strap dynamically, and dynamic loading is what breaks things. Straps come loose because nobody could get them tight.

The flat hook suits flatbed rub rails and stake pockets.

The assembly's rating is its weakest component.
