Pro1 IAQ Programmable Thermostat T855

The Pro1 IAQ T855 is a programmable thermostat for residential and light commercial heating and cooling systems.

Heat pump control introduces requirements a conventional thermostat does not have, and the differences account for a large share of thermostat compatibility problems.

A heat pump needs a reversing valve output, and the thermostat must be configurable for whether that valve is energised in cooling or in heating, since manufacturers differ. Setting this wrongly produces a system that heats on a call for cooling.

It needs auxiliary heat control, staged so that the supplemental heat runs only when the heat pump alone cannot maintain temperature, rather than running alongside it unnecessarily.

It benefits from emergency heat capability, allowing the compressor to be locked out and the auxiliary heat used alone when the heat pump has failed.

And it benefits from adaptive recovery, which starts recovery from setback early enough that the heat pump can achieve it without calling auxiliary heat. Without this, a deep setback on a heat pump can cost more in electric resistance heat during recovery than the setback saved.
