Product Highlights
Description
The Packard 66847 is a draft inducer blower assembly for replacement of the combustion venting blower in gas-fired furnaces and appliances.
Diagnosing a furnace that will not fire begins with the sequence of operation, and the draft inducer sits early in it. On a call for heat, the control energises the inducer, the inducer establishes draft, the pressure switch proves it and closes, and only then does the ignition sequence proceed. A failure anywhere in that chain stops the furnace at the same visible point: the inducer runs, or attempts to, and nothing further happens.
Distinguishing between causes requires checking each element. An inducer that does not turn at all points to the motor, its capacitor if fitted, or the control output. One that turns slowly or noisily points to bearings or a fouled wheel. One that runs normally while the pressure switch stays open points to a blocked vent, a disconnected or plugged pressure switch hose, a blocked condensate trap, or a failed switch.
Confirm the appliance model and original part number before ordering, replace the mounting gasket, and verify the vent and condensate path before returning the appliance to service.
