Product Highlights
Description
The Mars M93353 is a grease gun used for lubricating bearings on motors, blowers, and mechanical equipment.
Bearings that are provided with grease fittings are designed to be relubricated, and doing it on schedule extends bearing life substantially. Doing it wrongly shortens it.
The most common error is overgreasing. A bearing housing is not meant to be packed full. Grease needs space to move, and a housing filled completely causes the rolling elements to churn through it, which generates heat. That heat degrades the grease, and in sealed bearings the pressure can push the seals out, after which contamination enters freely.
Manufacturers specify a quantity and an interval, usually a small number of strokes at a stated frequency, and following that is better than greasing until it appears at the relief.
Cleanliness is the second requirement. The fitting must be wiped clean before the gun is attached, since grease pushed into a bearing carries whatever was on the fitting with it. Grit introduced this way is abrasive and does exactly what the lubrication was meant to prevent.
Grease compatibility is the third. Mixing incompatible greases can cause the mixture to break down and lose its structure, and where a different grease is being introduced the housing should be purged.
Confirm the gun suits the fittings encountered, and follow the equipment manufacturer's lubrication schedule.
